Real Estate Agent Resume Examples & Writing Guide
A real estate agent resume gets a call from a broker or team leader when it shows four things fast: your state license and status, your production (transaction sides and dollar volume closed per year), where your business comes from (referrals, sphere, online leads, open houses) and the tools you run it with. Below: a full realtor resume sample, summaries, bullet points, skills and a version for new agents.
Real estate agent resume example (licensed agent, 5 years)
This sample is for a residential agent with five years of licensed production who is applying to join a team or move brokerages. The name, brokerages and numbers are made up but sized to a real mid-market agent. If you are newly licensed, keep the layout and use the no-experience section further down.

Skills
Who actually reads a real estate agent resume, and what they look for
Most agents are independent contractors, so the resume goes to a broker or team leader, not an HR department. It is also used for salaried real estate jobs: showing assistant, inside sales agent (ISA), transaction coordinator, or new-home sales consultant for a builder. In every case the reader wants the same few facts up front.
- License status. State, license type (sales agent or salesperson vs. broker), year issued, and whether it is active. A resume that says "real estate agent" with no license line looks unlicensed. If you are still in pre-licensing, say where you are: "Texas Sales Agent exam scheduled October 2026".
- Production. Sides closed and volume per year, ideally for the last two or three years so they can see the trend. Team leaders also want the split between buyer and listing sides, because a team full of buyer agents needs listing agents.
- Lead source. Referral and sphere, open houses, online leads (Zillow, Realtor.com), farming, expired listings, or a team's leads. This tells a broker whether your business moves with you.
- Systems. The CRM, the transaction platform and how you market listings. A team that runs on kvCORE and Dotloop wants to know your ramp-up time.
- Markets and property types. Residential resale, new construction, luxury, investors, commercial, land, leasing. Name the counties or neighborhoods you work.
“Show me sides and volume by year and tell me where the deals came from. If a third of your business is referrals after three years, you are running a real business and I want you here. If the resume just says 'helped clients buy and sell homes', it tells me nothing.”
Real estate agent resume summary examples (new agent, experienced, broker, commercial)
Three to four lines under your name. License and years first, then production, then lead source or specialty, then tools. Skip the objective format even as a new agent; a short summary that names your license progress and what you bring from your last job works better.

Real estate agent resume bullet points and job description (weak vs. strong)
The typical real estate agent job description on a resume lists duties: show homes, write contracts, market listings. Brokers already know the duties. Rewrite each one with a number that shows your scale or your result. Seven common lines, before and after.
| Weak | Strong |
|---|---|
| Helped clients buy and sell homes. | Closed 26 transaction sides and $9.2M in volume in 2025 (16 buyer, 10 listing) in the Katy and Cypress areas of Houston. |
| Generated leads through networking. | Built a 420-contact sphere database and worked it with a 33-touch annual plan; 58% of 2025 closings came from repeat clients and their referrals. |
| Marketed listings on MLS and social media. | Listed 12 homes in 2025 with professional photos, a 3D tour and a launch week of Instagram and Facebook posts; median 9 days on market vs. 34 for the county. |
| Held open houses. | Hosted 48 open houses a year for team listings, averaging 11 sign-ins each, and converted 5 open-house visitors to closed buyer clients in 2025. |
| Negotiated contracts. | Negotiated 50+ purchase agreements a year, including 14 multiple-offer situations in 2025 where buyers won 9 without being the highest price (appraisal gap, leaseback and inspection terms). |
| Priced homes for sellers. | Prepared 40+ CMAs a year; 11 of 12 listings in 2025 sold within 2% of the recommended list price, none needed a price reduction. |
| Worked with first-time buyers. | Guided 15 first-time buyers to closing in 2025, coordinating FHA and VA loans, down-payment assistance from the state housing agency and inspection repairs on each file. |

Skills to put on a real estate agent resume
Keep the list to 10 to 14 items and make them the words a broker or team leader uses. Split them mentally into three groups: the work of the job, the tools, and the way you generate business.
Core real estate skills:
- Buyer representation and buyer consultations (with the property types and loan types you know: FHA, VA, USDA, conventional, jumbo)
- Listing presentations, pricing and comparative market analysis (CMA)
- Contract writing and negotiation on your state's forms (TREC in Texas, C.A.R. forms in California, FAR/BAR in Florida)
- Inspection, appraisal and repair negotiations
- Open houses and showing management
- Lead generation and follow-up: sphere, referrals, online leads, farming, expired and FSBO (for sale by owner) prospecting
- Fair housing compliance and agency disclosure
- Relocation, investor, new-construction, luxury or 55+ specialties, if you have them
Tools and software brokers recognize:
- CRM: Follow Up Boss, kvCORE, BoomTown, Lofty (formerly Chime), Sierra Interactive, Brivity, Wise Agent
- Transaction management: Dotloop, SkySlope, DocuSign, zipForm / Lone Wolf Transactions
- MLS and data: your local MLS by name, Realtors Property Resource (RPR), ShowingTime, Supra eKey
- Marketing: Canva, Matterport, Zillow Premier Agent, Realtor.com Connections Plus, Facebook and Instagram ads
- Commercial: CoStar, LoopNet, Crexi, Buildout, Argus
Soft skills count only when shown: "answered every lead inside five minutes" beats "excellent communication". A second language is a real skill in most US markets; list it with your level.
How to list your real estate license, REALTOR membership and designations
Real estate licenses are issued by each state, and the names differ. Texas and most states call the first license a sales agent or salesperson license; North Carolina and Colorado call the entry license a broker license; Florida uses sales associate. Broker or managing broker licenses require experience plus extra coursework and an exam, and the years required vary by state. Use your state's exact wording and include the issuing body and the year.
Certifications: "Real Estate Salesperson License, California Department of Real Estate (DRE #02123456), active since 2022". You can also put the license number in the contact line, as in the sample above.
Education: "Illinois 75-hour Broker Pre-License course completed August 2026; state exam scheduled September 2026". Do not call yourself an agent in the header yet.
"REALTOR, National Association of REALTORS and [local association name], since 2021". REALTOR is a membership trademark, not a license; only use it if you are a current NAR member. The MLS access usually comes with it, so brokers care.
List the real ones with the issuing body and year: ABR (Accredited Buyer's Representative), SRS (Seller Representative Specialist), CRS (Certified Residential Specialist), GRI (Graduate, REALTOR Institute), SRES (Seniors Real Estate Specialist), PSA (Pricing Strategy Advisor), e-PRO, MRP (Military Relocation Professional), CCIM for commercial.
Continuing education is required for renewal in every state (for example, 18 hours every two years in Texas; check your state's commission). Skip routine CE, but a specialty course that supports your niche (new-home sales, luxury marketing) is worth a line. Licensed in two states? One line per state.
Real estate agent resume with no experience (new agent or changing careers)
Brokers hire new agents all the time, and first-year agents have no production to show. What a broker wants instead is evidence you can generate business and last through a slow first year. Your past work has that evidence. Build the resume around it.
- 1Put your license or exam status at the top, in the header or a line under it: "Texas Sales Agent License issued July 2026" or "Exam scheduled".
- 2Write a summary that names your sphere size (people who know you locally), your sales or customer-facing background and your availability (full time, evenings and weekends).
- 3Translate previous jobs into real estate terms: sales quotas met, customers served per day, contracts or paperwork handled, retention, upsells, referrals earned.
- 4Add a Real Estate Activities section if you have anything: open houses hosted for other agents, showings as a licensed assistant, transaction coordination, property management, even a personal home purchase or a rental you manage.
- 5List the pre-licensing coursework by name in Education; it shows you know the contract forms and agency law even without deals.
- 6Keep it to one page and send it with a short note about why you chose this brokerage.
Newly licensed Arizona real estate salesperson (ADRE, June 2026) with 8 years managing a 22-person retail store doing $4.5M a year. Local sphere of 350+ contacts in the East Valley. Comfortable with commission-based goals, weekend hours and CRM follow-up. Seeking a team with lead flow and a mentorship program.
Georgia real estate salesperson (license issued May 2026) with 6 years as a hotel front office supervisor handling 200+ guest interactions a day and a 4.7 guest-satisfaction score. Bilingual English and Spanish. Already hosted 9 open houses for brokerage listings and built a 220-contact database in Follow Up Boss.
Hosted 14 open houses for two listing agents in the first three months, collected 130 visitor sign-ins and set 6 buyer consultations, 2 of which are under contract.
Format, length and ATS notes for a realtor resume
- One page for almost everyone under 10 years. Two pages only for brokers, team leaders or commercial agents with long deal lists.
- Order: header with license number, summary, production highlights (optional 3-line box with sides and volume by year), experience, skills, certifications and designations, education.
- No photo on a US resume, even though your face is on your yard signs. Keep headshots for your marketing.
- Layout: a clean template such as cvplex sales-professional. Many brokerages take resumes through job boards and applicant tracking systems (ATS), which read text and ignore graphics and skill bars.
- Words to mirror from the posting when true for you: licensed, buyer's agent, listing agent, lead generation, CRM, open houses, negotiation, MLS, transaction management, sphere of influence, referral, and the CRM the brokerage uses.
- Send a PDF named Firstname-Lastname-Real-Estate-Resume.pdf, with your LinkedIn profile and agent website in the header.
- Outside the US: in the UK, "estate agent" is the title, no license is required and the document is a CV. This page covers US conventions.
Frequently asked questions
How do I write a real estate agent resume?
Start with your license (state, type, year, number) in the header, then a 3-line summary with your years, sides and volume closed, your main lead source and your CRM. Give each brokerage 3 to 5 bullets that carry a number: sides, volume, days on market, conversion rate, database size. Add skills, designations and education, and keep it to one page.
How do I write a real estate resume with no experience?
Lead with your license or exam date, then a summary that names your sphere size and your sales or customer-facing background. Rewrite your previous jobs with sales numbers (quota attainment, customers per day, retention), add any open houses or showings you have done for other agents, and list your pre-licensing coursework in Education. One page.
What skills should I put on a real estate agent resume?
Buyer and seller representation, pricing and CMAs, contract negotiation on your state's forms, lead generation (sphere, referrals, online leads, open houses), and fair housing compliance. Then the tools: your CRM (Follow Up Boss, kvCORE), transaction platform (Dotloop, SkySlope), MLS, ShowingTime and Canva or Matterport for marketing. Add languages you speak.
Should a realtor resume have an objective or a summary?
A summary. Even a brand-new agent can write three lines that say what they bring: license status, sphere size, past sales results and availability. An objective that says you are seeking a rewarding position in real estate wastes the most valuable space on the page.
How do I describe real estate agent duties on a resume?
Describe them as results with numbers, not duties. "Marketed listings" becomes "listed 12 homes with a median 9 days on market". "Worked with buyers" becomes "closed 16 buyer sides including 9 FHA and VA loans". Brokers already know the duties; they want your scale and your conversion rates.
Do I put REALTOR on my resume?
Yes, if you are a current member of the National Association of REALTORS; write it in capitals as the trademark is written, and name your local association. If you are licensed but not an NAR member, use "licensed real estate agent" or your state's exact license title instead.
