Beautician (Esthetician) Resume Examples & Writing Guide
A beautician or esthetician resume gets an interview when it shows your state license and its expiration, the services you perform and how many a day (facials, waxing, peels, lash and brow work), your retail and rebooking numbers, and clean sanitation habits. In the US the licensed title is usually esthetician or cosmetologist; use the one on your license. Below is a full sample plus bullets, skills and summaries.
Beautician / esthetician resume example
This sample is for a licensed esthetician with five years in the treatment room: two years at a membership-based facial spa chain, then lead esthetician at an independent day spa with medical services under a nurse. The name, employers and school are made up. Keep the structure and replace the license, services and numbers with your own.

Skills
Beautician, esthetician, beauty therapist or cosmetologist: which title to use
"Beautician" is what clients say. It is not a license category in the US. Your state license will say esthetician (skin: facials, waxing, hair removal, makeup), cosmetologist (hair, skin and nails), nail technician, or in a few states a master esthetician or an electrologist. Spa and salon job postings use the license names. Put the exact word from your license under your name, and use "beautician" only if the posting does.
- Esthetician: the usual US title for skin care in day spas, medical spas, salons and membership spa chains. Spelled "aesthetician" by some medical spas; use the posting's spelling.
- Cosmetologist: licensed for hair, skin and nails. If you mainly do skin, say "Licensed Cosmetologist (skin care focus)".
- Beauty therapist: the UK, Irish, Australian and Indian term. UK employers look for an NVQ or VTCT Level 2 or 3 in Beauty Therapy rather than a state license.
“The first thing I check is the license number and that it is current in our state. Then I look for services a day, retail percentage and rebooking. If someone writes "passionate about beauty" and no numbers, that resume is on the bottom of the pile.”
Beautician job description for a resume: weak and strong bullets
Most beautician resumes list duties: "performed facials and waxing," "provided excellent service," "maintained a clean workspace." Every esthetician does that. Rewrite each line with how many, how much and how well. Eight rewrites using real spa work:
| Weak | Strong |
|---|---|
| Performed facials and waxing services. | Performed 8–10 services a day (customized facials, peels, dermaplaning, full-body waxing) at a $110 average ticket, 5 days a week. |
| Recommended products to clients. | Sold $3,500 a month in professional skincare, 22% of service revenue, by writing a 3-product home-care plan at the end of every facial. |
| Built strong client relationships. | Kept a 65% rebooking rate and 280 five-star reviews by booking the next visit in the treatment room and texting a 48-hour check-in. |
| Maintained a clean and sanitary workspace. | Ran autoclave sterilization logs, disinfected surfaces with an EPA-registered disinfectant between every client and passed 3 state board inspections with no findings. |
| Sold memberships. | Enrolled 7–9 members a month on average by presenting the membership after the service, best on a team of 8 estheticians. |
| Assisted with medical treatments. | Prepped and numbed 6–8 patients a day for laser and microneedling performed by the RN, completed pre-treatment photos and consent forms in the EMR, and did post-care follow-up calls. |
| Trained new staff. | Trained 4 new estheticians on the facial protocol, skin analysis and intake forms; all 4 hit the 60% rebooking target within 90 days. |
Beautician resume skills spa and salon managers look for
List 10 to 14 skills, services first, then products and systems, then the sales and people skills. A spa manager reads the services to see if you can cover the menu and reads the sales line to see if you will pay for your room.
Treatments (only the ones you do well and are licensed for):
- Skin analysis and consultation, Fitzpatrick skin typing, contraindication screening
- Facials: customized, deep-cleansing, anti-aging, acne, back facials, extractions, high frequency, steam, masks
- Chemical peels (superficial glycolic, lactic, salicylic, enzyme), microdermabrasion, dermaplaning where allowed, LED
- Waxing: face, body, Brazilian, hard and soft wax; sugaring or threading if you offer them
- Lash lifts, lash extensions, brow lamination, brow and lash tinting, brow shaping
Products, equipment and systems:
- Professional skincare lines you are trained on (Dermalogica, Image Skincare, PCA Skin, Eminence, SkinCeuticals and others); name your brand training
- Equipment: steamer, magnifying lamp, high-frequency, microcurrent, microdermabrasion machines, LED panels, hydrodermabrasion devices
- Booking and POS: Vagaro, Mindbody, Boulevard, Zenoti, Meevo, Square Appointments
- Sanitation: EPA-registered disinfectants, autoclave use and logs, single-use items, state board rules
Sales and client skills (write them as results, not adjectives):
- Retail sales as a percentage of service revenue (15% is average, 25%+ is strong)
- Rebooking rate and membership or series sales
- Consultation and home-care plans, upgrading a basic facial to a peel or add-on
- Time management: turning a room in 10 minutes and staying on schedule with 8–10 clients

Beautician resume summary and objective examples
Use a summary once you have worked in a spa or salon for a year. Use an objective if you are fresh out of school, called a "fresher" in India, or moving from retail beauty into treatments. Three lines: license, services and one or two numbers, then your availability.
Texas-licensed esthetician with 6 years in day spas and salons, performing 9–10 facials, peels and waxing services a day with a 70% rebooking rate and retail at 26% of service revenue. Trained in PCA Skin and Eminence protocols. Available Tuesday to Saturday, evenings included.
Licensed esthetician with 4 years in medical spas, supporting an RN and a nurse practitioner on laser, microneedling and injectable days (6–8 patients a day) and performing chemical peels, dermaplaning and hydrodermabrasion. Comfortable with EMR charting, before-and-after photography and post-care calls. Florida Facial Specialist registration, current.
Esthetician specializing in waxing and brows, 5 years, 14–18 services a day at a speed-waxing studio with a 4.9 rating on 500+ reviews. Brazilian, full-body and facial waxing, brow lamination and tinting. Retail at 18% of service revenue. Looking for a booth or commission chair in a busy salon.
Newly licensed esthetician (California, passed the state exam in July 2026) with 600 school hours and 4 months of student clinic work at 4–6 clients a day. Confident in customized facials, extractions and body waxing; still building speed on Brazilian waxing. Seeking a full-time treatment room in a day spa; available six days a week.
Beauty advisor with 3 years of skincare consultations and $1,500 a day in retail sales at a cosmetics retailer, finishing an esthetics program in November 2026. Seeking a spa front desk or esthetician apprentice role with a path to the treatment room after licensing.
How to list your license, school hours and certifications
Every US state licenses estheticians and cosmetologists through a state board, and the requirements differ a lot. Esthetician programs run from about 260 hours (Florida's Facial Specialist registration) to 600 hours (California; Texas is 750) and up to 1,000 or more in states with a master esthetician tier such as Washington, Utah and Virginia. After school you take a written and often a practical exam. Renewal is every one to two years, in some states with continuing education. Copy the exact license name and number from your state board record.
Texas Esthetician License, Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, #1234567, expires 2027
Ohio Cosmetology License, Ohio State Cosmetology and Barber Board, current (skin care and waxing focus)
Esthetics Program, 600 hours, completed June 2026; California state exam scheduled July 2026
- Put the license first, with the state, issuing board, number and expiration. If you hold licenses in two states (common after a move), list both.
- Brand training certificates (Dermalogica Expert, Image Skincare, PCA Skin, Eminence and others) are worth one line each with the year. Spas that carry the line hire for them.
- Specialty certificates: lash extension, brow lamination, sugaring, spray tan and dermaplaning courses are private certificates, not licenses. List them with the training company and year, and only if your state allows the service.
- Medical spa work: laser hair removal and other light-based treatments need a separate state certificate in some states (for example a Texas Laser Hair Removal Technician certificate) and are limited to medical staff in others. Say exactly what you did and under whom.
- Advanced credentials such as NCEA Certified (National Coalition of Estheticians Associations) or a CIDESCO diploma stand out at high-end spas. Only list one you have completed.
- Education: list your esthetics or cosmetology program with the school and hours, then a high school diploma or GED. A degree does not need explaining.
Beautician resume with no experience or fresh out of school
Spas hire new estheticians all the time; the trade turns over fast and many owners prefer to train to their own protocol. What they worry about is whether you will sell retail, keep your rebooking up and still be there in a year. Your resume should answer those, even with no spa job on it.
- 1Put your license status in the header: "Licensed Esthetician (July 2026)" or "Esthetics student, 480 of 600 hours, state exam scheduled September 2026."
- 2Write a three-line objective: hours, the services you are confident in and the ones you are still building, and your availability (evenings and Saturdays decide it).
- 3Turn your school clinic into a job: clients per day on the clinic floor, the services you did most, any client who asked for you again, any retail you sold.
- 4Use every customer-facing job you have had, especially retail beauty, salon front desk or nail salon reception: consultations a shift, sales per day, products learned, appointment software used.
- 5Offer a model day: state on the resume or in the email that you are happy to do a practical (a facial or a wax) on a model at the interview. Most spas require it anyway.
- 6Keep it to one page, no photo, PDF, and apply in person to independent spas on a weekday afternoon.
Student Esthetician, Westside Institute clinic floor (Feb – Jun 2026). Performed 4–6 client services a day in the final 10 weeks, mostly customized facials, brow waxing and body waxing; 9 clients rebooked with me by name. Sold $300–400 a month in student clinic retail. Completed 600 hours and passed the state written and practical exams on the first attempt.
Beauty Advisor, cosmetics retailer (2024 – 2026). Did 15–20 skincare consultations a shift and sold $1,200–1,800 a day across 6 professional and prestige lines; top 3 of 12 advisors for the year.
Beautician resume format, template and keywords
- One page. Spa managers read resumes between clients.
- Order: header with license title and status, summary or objective, license and certifications, skills (services first), experience, education. New graduates: move education and clinic experience above other jobs.
- A clean layout with a touch of color (the cvplex rose-gold template) fits salons and spas; use the plain ats-classic for chain spas and medical spas whose applications go through applicant tracking software. Either way: no photo, no date of birth, single column, PDF.
- Name the spa type and size next to each employer: "membership spa, 12 rooms" or "medical spa with RN." The manager will picture your day.
Words to mirror from the posting when they are true for you: licensed esthetician, facials, chemical peels, dermaplaning, microdermabrasion, waxing, Brazilian, lash lift, brow lamination, skin analysis, consultation, retail sales, rebooking, membership, client retention, sanitation, state board, Dermalogica or the spa's brand, Vagaro or Mindbody or the spa's software, medical spa, laser, treatment room.
Frequently asked questions
How do I write a beautician resume?
Put your license title (esthetician or cosmetologist), state and expiration under your name. Add a three-line summary with your years, services per day, rebooking rate and retail percentage. List the license and brand certifications, then skills (services first), then each spa or salon with numbered bullets. One page, no photo, PDF.
Should my resume say beautician, esthetician or cosmetologist?
Use the word on your license, because that is what US spa and salon postings and applicant tracking software look for. "Esthetician" is skin care; "cosmetologist" covers hair, skin and nails. Use "beautician" or "beauty therapist" only if the posting does, or if you are applying in the UK or India.
What skills should I put on a beautician resume?
Treatments you are licensed for and do well: facials, peels, extractions, waxing, lash and brow services. Then products and systems: your brand training, equipment, booking software, sanitation. Then the numbers that show sales and loyalty: retail as a percentage of service revenue, rebooking rate, memberships sold.
What is a good summary for a beautician resume?
Three lines: your license and years, the services you do most with a services-per-day number, your rebooking rate or retail percentage, and your availability. "Licensed esthetician with 5 years in day spas, 8–10 services a day, 68% rebooking, retail at 24% of service revenue; available Tuesday to Saturday."
How do I write a beautician resume with no experience or as a fresher?
Lead with your license or exam date and school hours. Treat the student clinic as a job with clients per day, services and any retail sold. Add retail beauty or front desk jobs with numbers, list the product lines you know, and say you are ready to do a practical on a model at the interview.
What is a good objective for a beautician resume?
Two or three lines: license status, what you are confident in, what you are still learning and when you can work. "Newly licensed esthetician (600 hours, July 2026), confident in facials and body waxing, seeking a treatment room in a day spa; available six days a week." Skip "passionate about beauty."
Can I use a beautician CV format with a photo?
Not in the US. Resumes here carry no photo, date of birth, marital status or nationality; many employers will not consider a resume that includes them. In the UK, India and much of Europe a CV may include a photo, but the numbers and structure on this page still apply.
