Uber Driver CV Examples & Writing Guide (Private Hire Driver)

This example is for a driver who has worked full-time on Uber and Bolt for about four years after a courier job, and is now applying for a salaried driving role (executive chauffeur, staff shuttle, non-emergency patient transport). The name and employers are made up; the trip counts and ratings are sized to a real full-time driver. If you drive part-time, keep the layout and give your real hours.

App drivers are not employees of the platform. Since the 2021 Supreme Court ruling, Uber treats its UK drivers as workers (with holiday pay and minimum earnings for time on trips), but you are still self-employed for tax. So the honest and most convincing way to list it is as self-employment, with the app named as where the work came from. Here are the formats that work, whether you are applying for another driving job or for something else entirely.

Most app drivers use the CV to move into a job with steady pay: staff shuttle or community transport driver, executive chauffeur, non-emergency patient transport, delivery or courier driver, bus driver after training for a category D licence, taxi or private hire controller, or a customer service job off the road. Whatever the target, the hiring manager or fleet recruiter checks the same things.

• Your driving record. They will check your licence with a DVLA check code. Say up front that it is clean, and how long it has been clean. If it is not, be honest at interview, not on the CV.
• Proof of volume and reliability. Trips completed and years active tell them you can do long shifts with the public, day after day. A 4.9+ rating from thousands of passengers is a reference from thousands of customers.
• Customer handling. Private hire drivers deal with drunk, late, upset and lost passengers. Show one or two lines about that; it is exactly what shuttle, hotel and patient transport employers worry about.
• Local knowledge and navigation. Airport, hospital, stadium and city-centre pick-up rules, plus confidence with sat-nav apps and rerouting in traffic.
• Licences and checks. Every app driver in the UK needs a private hire driver licence from a council (Transport for London in London), which comes with an enhanced DBS check, a medical and safeguarding training. Give the issuing council and expiry; it saves the next employer time. A category D1 or D licence with Driver CPC, or a C1 or C licence, moves you into a different pay bracket.

Three lines: years driving and apps, your headline numbers, your record, and the kind of role you want. Write a personal statement, not a career objective; the numbers do the persuading.

"Drove passengers to their destinations" is the Uber driver job description everyone writes. It says nothing a hiring manager can measure. Rewrite each duty with a number from your driver dashboard or your own records. Seven common lines, before and after.

List 8 to 12 skills a fleet manager or hiring manager will recognise. Concrete beats general: "airport pick-up procedures" is a skill, "good driver" is not.

• Defensive driving and accident-free record (give the miles or years)
• Customer service with the general public, including drunk, elderly and disabled passengers
• Passenger assistance: wheelchairs, walking frames, child seats, luggage; MiDAS or disability awareness training if you have it
• Navigation and route planning: Google Maps, Waze, knowledge of airport, hospital and venue pick-up zones
• Time management across long shifts and busy periods; punctuality for pre-booked trips
• Vehicle checks, servicing schedules and council licensing standards
• App platforms and ratings (Uber Driver, Bolt Driver), acceptance and cancellation rate discipline
• Payment handling: in-app payments, cash tips, congestion and clean air zone charges, receipts
• Self-employment skills: income and mileage records, Self Assessment, hire and reward insurance
• Languages spoken, with level
• For the next step: category D1, D, C1 or C licence, Driver CPC, DVLA medical (D4), private hire or taxi licence, first aid

Soft skills such as patience and reliability are real in this job, but show them through numbers (rating, years, cancellation rate) rather than listing the words.

• Driving licence: "full UK driving licence (category B)", and "clean, no points" if it is true. Councils usually ask for a full licence held for a minimum period before you can apply for a private hire licence, often 3 years.
• Checks: the council runs an enhanced DBS check, a DVLA licence check and usually a medical to the Group 2 standard used for bus and lorry drivers, and the app runs its own checks too. Saying you hold a current licence with these checks passed is a legitimate line.
• Private hire driver licence: issued by the council (Transport for London in London) after the checks, a knowledge or topographical test, safeguarding and disability awareness training and, in some areas, an English language test. Licences usually run for up to 3 years. List the issuing council and expiry date; give the badge number only if the employer asks.
• Vehicle documents: not for the CV, but bring your private hire vehicle licence, MOT and hire and reward insurance certificate to a fleet interview.
• Extra qualifications that open better-paid driving jobs: category D1 or D (minibus and bus) or C1 or C (lorries) with Driver CPC and a DVLA D4 medical, an advanced driving certificate (IAM RoadSmart, RoSPA), first aid, MiDAS for minibus and community transport work, and an airside pass if you have worked airport contracts.
• Outside the UK: most US states do not need a local licence for app drivers (New York City is an exception) and the document is a resume. This page follows UK conventions; rules in Scotland and Northern Ireland differ in detail.

• One page, two at most. Fleet managers and transport supervisors read quickly and often print CVs for the interview.
• Order: header with licence and "no points", personal statement, experience (app driving listed as self-employment with numbers), skills, licences and certificates, education.
• Use a plain reverse-chronological layout, months and years. A clean template such as cvplex delivery-driver works; no photo, no date of birth, no graphics.
• Put the numbers in: trips, years, rating, acceptance rate, miles, accident record. Round honestly and be ready to show the dashboard.
• If you are leaving driving altogether, rename the header "Customer Service Professional" or similar and move the customer, payment and small-business bullets to the top of the app driving entry.
