What cloud hiring managers and recruiters check first
Cloud engineering postings are specific about the provider and the tools, and recruiters filter on those words before anyone reads a bullet. After that, the platform or infrastructure manager wants to know how big an environment you have run and what you changed in it.
- Provider match. An AWS shop wants AWS. If you are strong on Azure and the posting says AWS, your resume needs to show AWS somewhere real (a certification, a project, a migration) or it will be filtered out. Put the provider in your title line: "Cloud Engineer (AWS)".
- Infrastructure as code. Terraform is the most requested tool in cloud postings, followed by CloudFormation, Bicep and Pulumi. Managers want to know you build in code, not in the console. Say how much of the environment is in code and how changes are reviewed.

Cloud certifications on a resume: which ones recruiters recognize
Certifications matter more in cloud engineering than in most software jobs, for two reasons: recruiters use them to sort large applicant pools, and consulting partners need certified staff.
